Clutha Cattery opened in the spring of 2007 in Gundleton, near Alresford in Hampshire, and provides a safe, comfortable and caring environment for your cat in beautiful and tranquil surroundings.  We are approved and listed by the Feline Advisory Bureau (FAB), which is dedicated to promoting high standards of care in catteries. You will be able to leave your cat with us safe in the knowledge that he/she will be in capable and caring hands.

The cattery is adjacent to the house so that we can maintain supervision at all times.

Since we are a cattery only and do not board dogs you can rest assured that your cat will spend his/her time with us in a quiet and undisturbed environment.

  • The secure accommodation has been newly built in strict accordance with Feline Advisory Bureau standards.  The design has been based on providing the very best boarding facilities for your cat, and to give you peace of mind that he/she will be in first class and comfortable surroundings.

  • The purpose built cattery includes a fully fitted kitchen and laundry to allow washing, cleaning & disinfecting and separate food storage & preparation.

  • The kitchen has been designed with ample food storage and preparation areas and is light and airy.

  • Sleeping quarters are heated by thermostatically controlled heat lamps which can be individually regulated to ensure your cat is kept warm and cosy.  Because the heater warms the whole area and not just the bed, cats can move around comfortably in the coldest weather.

  • The cattery is housed within a substantial outer building which has been designed to protect against the cold during winter and against the heat in summer.  Sleeping quarters are very well insulated, and the exercise runs provide plenty of fresh air and light whilst at the same time providing protection against the elements.  There are wide 'sneeze gaps' between the units so that cats can see their neighbours but are at a comfortable distance from each other.
  • Accommodation is available for up to 4 cats sharing from the same household.

  • The individual exercise areas provide space for cats to play with the toys, use the scratching posts, or do what cats do best and laze about on the large comfortable chairs or sunning shelves.

Image 1 The layout of the cattery allows resident cats to look out onto the sheltered garden and watch the birds as they come down to the bird bath and feeders.

  • We provide a high quality diet as standard, using wet and dry proprietary brands and freshly cooked fish.  We will feed whatever your cat normally eats and can cater for special needs.  If your cat is on a prescription or an unusual diet we will ask you to bring along enough for his/her stay.

  • Highest standards of hygiene are maintained to ensure your cat's comfort, health and safety. Disinfectant hand rub dispensers and water taps are strategically placed around the passageways to ensure that staff can easily wash hands between handling cats.
  • Units are cleaned every day during your cat's stay, and litter trays are checked, emptied and cleaned frequently.  Separate cleaning tools are kept for each unit.
  • After a cat has vacated a unit and before the next occupant arrives the unit and all its contents are thoroughly disinfected using a tried and tested procedure.  Units are left for a minimum of 12 hours after disinfecting before being reoccupied.

  • Sue Smith has been trained by the Feline Advisory Bureau to look after your cat's health and well-being.  Having kept cats for many years she is now devoting her time to looking after your cats, ably helped and supported by her husband Paul.
  • They have five much loved cats of their own - Vigdis who is 17, Sooty 3, young Beppe 2, and little Billy who was born at the end of October last year. Their beloved Clemmie, Vigdis' sister, passed away on 1 September 2009 after being a faithful and affectionate companion for many years.  She loved visitors, was the 'meet and greet' in the office, and fulfilled the role very well.  Beppe came from Cats Protection as a playmate for Sooty, thus sparing Vigdis from well meaning but unwanted invitations by Sooty to join in wrestling and chasing games!  Little Billy was born in a neighbour's shed and was found and looked after by Ellie, who  works part-time in the cattery.  She brought him over at the beginning of January during the heavy snow and he is now well and truly part of the family. The most recent addition is Zander, a large ginger boy of 8 who is quickly getting to know the other four.  They also have two horses, Noddy and Earl.

  • We share your love of cats and give them lots of tender loving care!
